Choosing Cheer is a transformational guide to incorporating more of the joy of Jesus in your life through the study of Biblical scriptures and real-world experiences.

Do you know Jesus but wonder where joy is? Do you find joy when things are smooth sailing but when life gets choppy, does joy seem out of reach? Are you overwhelmed with the state of the world? In this thoughtful and uplifting guide, Nicolet Bell, who chooses cheer as her life’s guiding principle, helps us understand why we should choose cheer, she identifies what is stealing our cheerfulness, and she offers tools to help us choose cheer daily, even when life is challenging.

Jesus tells us, “In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33), and Bell has taken this teaching to heart. In a thoughtful and inspiring way, she explores real-world difficulties, including her own infertility struggle, the life-threatening illness of a friend’s child, and the everyday aspiration to incorporate the love of Jesus into all of our relationships.

In every chapter Bell leads us in a cheer practice with breath prayers, scripture quotes, gratitude exercises, and a cheer challenge that reflects the importance of finding joy in Jesus despite our circumstances. With the compassionate wisdom of a trusted friend, Bell guides us to find peace and wisdom in Jesus’s teachings, and to intentionally embrace all of life’s moments, knowing that our faith will sustain us.

Nicolet Bell is a blogger, content contributor, and chief operating officer for the JourneyWise Network, and host of The Choosing Cheer podcast. “A must-read for anyone seeking a life marked by joy that goes beyond life’s circumstances. With profound biblical insight and practical encouragement, Bell reminds us that abiding in God’s presence and embracing an eternal perspective allows us to experience lasting cheer as both a promise and a way of life. She beautifully equips readers to cultivate intentional joy through contentment, surrender, and prayer.  This book is a powerful reminder that, no matter our circumstances, cheer is both a command and a gift we can experience through the Holy Spirit.”—Abby Kuykendall, author of The Living Table and founder of A Table Top Affair

“Nicolet encourages us all to choose cheer even during difficult moments and unexpected trials. She writes in a way that connects with the reader, and makes you feel connected to her as a friend. I recommend this book for anyone needing more joy in their everyday. This book is a guide I will be going back to often.”—Grace Valentine, author of To the Girl Looking for More and Is It Just Me?

"In Choosing Cheer, Nicolet Bell takes a concept I’ve been trying to understand for much of my adult life—joy in the midst of suffering—and makes it so biblically clear. She isn’t just telling us to pick up our pom poms and pretend, but to dig in to God’s Word and grow deep roots in His truth. That’s where stabilizing joy can be found. It’s all about Jesus, and reading this book will help you know Him more."—Brooke McGlothlin, creator of Million Praying Moms, podcast host of Everyday Prayers with Million Praying Moms, and author of Praying Mom: Making Prayer the First and Best Response to Motherhood
