Sacraments of Liberation offers a theological and philosophical account of sacramental life as an alternative to the fragmenting logic of modernity and neoliberalism. Drawing on thinkers including Maximus the Confessor, Sergei Bulgakov, Karl Barth, Leonardo Boff, Pope Francis, Edward Casey, and Robin Wall Kimmerer, Henry W. Spaulding III brings sacramental and liberation theology into conversation with philosophy, ecology, and political economy. 

Through the central contrasts of space and placeand exchange and gift, Spaulding argues that sacramental theology resists the commodification of land, labor, relationships, and creation by recovering forms of belonging, solidarity, and durable community rooted in the reception of creation as gift.
